Four Cornerstone Principles
There are four critical cornerstone principles upon which a steward’s role and responsibilities rest.
First, a steward believes that workers have rights and that the union exists and acts to protect those rights. Without this fundamental conviction, a steward will not have much credibility.
For example, if a union holds a rally to fight the abolishment of members' jobs and a steward fails to attend the rally, then he has failed to demonstrate his belief and commitment to workers' rights and the union's purpose to protect those rights.
