Signing and Motivating Members

photo of happy PEF memberPEF-represented employees pay fees or dues to be affiliated with and represented by PEF. But all of PEF’s “fee-payers” are not considered members until they sign their membership card.

One of the first responsibilities of a steward is to help new employees understand why the union exists, what the union does and how much of a stake the members have in the union.

The union is dynamic—which means it responds to its members.

Becoming a member allows them to vote, to elect new stewards and local officers, executive board representatives, and the union's top leadership as well as negotiated contracts.
