Duty of Fair Representation
Under the Duty of Fair Representation, all members of the PS&T bargaining unit are entitled to representation by PEF in all grievance procedures. Members and non-members (fee payers) must be represented to the best of the steward’s knowledge and ability.
The Duty of Fair Representation is a legally enforceable obligation placed upon a union—we may not arbitrarily and capriciously decide who to represent or whose grievances we will accept.
When a steward is approached to help with a grievance, the steward should seek the advice of the field representative.
