Furthering the Agenda
Political activity by stewards refers to working toward furthering the union’s political agenda by participating in events such as lobby day, participating in letter writing and phone banking, acting as a bus captain for union rallies, and getting involved in the local central labor council.
The agenda means the plan or schedule of potential activities and actions that lead to change in the union, and contributes to building union strength, power, identity and community.
Another way of furthering the union agenda comes when you set high standards of conduct and establish yourself as a credible representative of the union's team. Doing so will earn you the respect of the membership as well as management.
