Assess Your Learning: The Next Great Union Steward
Nobody stays a steward forever. For some folks, serving a term as a steward is considered a duty, but when their term is up, they are happy to relinquish their seat to an up-and–comer. For others, who relish the excitement of advocacy and the fellowship of meeting with members, serving as a steward can stretch on for many years. Still others find steward service as the first step before moving on to another position with more responsibility in the union. Yet no matter how long a steward serves, or how much one accomplishes in that role, one of the steward’s key responsibilities is to ensure continuity of representation when he/she steps down.
In other words, if you’re a steward, how would you plan to replace yourself?
